Brent Renouf and AC at the Hawks Christmas Family day (Video)

This is another in the series of videos from the Hawks Christmas Family day. This time its Brent Renouf, the Queensland Ruckman, our second pick in the draft. As normal the video isn’t the best but hopefully the content of the video is something that you guys are interested in.

Enjoy.

Vanders to lead us with the Mitch and Hodgey in support

For me personally I am extremely happy that the club took the expected step I guess, but some would call it a bold move. There are many fans that believe it is time to give Luke Hodge the top job. He is arguably the best player in the side, he has a huge on field presents and he is tough. The Hawks made the first step towards him moving to the Captaincy by making him a Vice-Captain. In fact co-Vice Captain with Sam Mitchell.

Hawthorn Football Club announced at its Annual General Meeting tonight that the Club will be captained in 2007 by Richard Vandenberg with vice-captaincy duties going to emerging leaders Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge.

The Fact that there is a debate about this issue is an absolute massive improvement for the club over the point that they were at a few years ago when they where struggling to find a leader. Now we have a leadership group of Richard Vandenberg, Sam Mitchell, Luke Hodge, Chance Bateman, Tim Clarke, Shane Crawford, Ben Dixon and Danny Jacobs. We also have guys like Max Bailey who are reported to be strong leaders. I saw Max at the Hawthorn Family day and in fact he was involved in the clinics that they held for the kids (that was a fantastic idea by the club by the way) and definitely stepped up and took control of the group of players and kids (which isn’t an easy thing with a bunch of 6 year olds).

The clubs future is in good hands.

What do you think? Are you happy with Vanders as Captain for 2007? What about beyond? When should Hodge (or Sammy) take over?

AC Audio (with Crappy video) from the Christmas Family Day

Hi guys,

Another video from the family day. Well actually its more like an Audio of the Last Part of Alistair Clarkson’s speak from the Family day. This guy is really, really impressive. Again sorry about the quality of the Video but I had run out of room on the camera

A talk with Chris Pelchen from SEN

(NB: To any of the guys coming from Hawks Headquarters, Welcome. Any chance on getting an invite?)

After the re-drafting of Josh Thurgood (unfortunately I missed the talk about Josh, some of the comments are available here), Hawks list manager talked to Kevin Bartlett of SEN about the re-drafting, the Hawks rookie selections, list management and last years picks.

Its a great listen and the talk about how the Hawks go about list management is outstanding!

Enjoy

Video: Mitch and Browny talk to the Draft picks

Okay, my apologies I came back a bit late, this wasn’t on the schedule. I missed most of the interviews with Thorp and Renouf and just caught the end of the talk with Morton. Did get the talk with Josh Kennedy and Garry Moss. The videos aren’t the best as they where recorded on my Sony DSC-P100 Digital Camera. This of course was taken at the Hawthorn Christmas Family day in 2006.

All good for Josh Thurgood!

The news is just in. Red headed Hawk fan Favorite, Josh Thurgood, delisted earlier in the preseason from the Senior Hawks list has been given a second chance being redrafted by the Hawks in the Preseason draft.

Josh started on the Hawks rookie list and was elevated for the 2005 season in which he played 9 games in 2005 and a further 2 in 2006 including 1 goal.

There has never been any question that Josh has the courage to play AFL footy but sometimes his courage is almost his own worst enemy. He had injury trouble in both his years including getting smashed by Matthew Lloyd and missing a lot of footy. There have also been question marks on his body and the need to add weight to his frame.

Still to come (at this time) is the rookie draft and it will be interesting to see if the Hawks try to slip another one or two of their discards (Brennan or Miller) back on via the Rookie draft.

Good Luck for Next year to Josh.

Welcome to the Hawks Squark!

Welcome everyone. This site is hopefully going to be a nice site to get news on the Mighty Hawks (from Hawthorn in the AFL) and the players and fans of the club. Hopefully a little bit of information from the news as well as my own passionate but uneducated thoughts about the Hawks.

If there is anything you want to see or hear, let me know and I will see what I can do. This is an unofficial site although if things go well, maybe I will be able to get a couple of interviews with Hawks players and staff (but this is unlikely).

So welcome and let the fun begin!
