Buddy Franklin Three good ins (Buddy, Bateman and Cyril) but no outs. Three players are going to be unlucky to miss out. Here is the squads for Mondays games (Rest of the AFL Teams for Round 2, 2010 here):

Interview with Brad Swell

Here is an interview with Brad Swell off of Sen from the 5th March. Talking about the fact that he was statistically the most efficent disposer in the AFL in 2006.

Two Hawks in Indigenous All-Stars team

The following report was on the the Hawks Official site and noted that two of our stars will play the Bombers in the bi-annual game where the best of the Indigenous players from around the league play an AFL teams a few weeks before the start of the preseason competition:

Chance Bateman and Lance Franklin have been selected to play in the Indigenous All-Stars Team, which will take on Essendon Football Club in Darwin next month. The two Hawks are part of a 30-man squad selected by a panel that includes Essendon legend Michael Long and former Footscray and Brisbane champion Michael McLean who will also coach the team.

An interesting omission in my opinion is Mark Williams. My understanding is that he wasn’t available for selection. To my knowledge he doesn’t have any injury but I believe that he became a father recently (but could be wrong) and maybe he wants to send the time at home with his family.

Best of luck for the boys and hopefully the All-Stars kick the bombers ass.

Support the Club – Adopt a Ball

Adopt a Hawks footy Was having a look through the Hawks Members only email for this week and found this article:

Help the players improve their football skills by Adopting A Ball. The Hawks give the balls a good beating in 4-6 weeks. The players then need a new footy to keep perfecting their skills. You can help the Mighty Hawks keep the supply of balls that they require. PLUS you will receive your pre-kicked footy with the signature of your favourite player – Strictly Limited – NOW AVAILABLE

So if you have some spare money and would love to be kicking around the same ball as your Hawks heros or if you want to put up on the bar, this could be just the thing that you are after.

Don’t forget to get your membership and support the club, its going to be a great year.

Training for 5 Jan 2006

Beau Muston One of the great things for footy fans on the Internet is training reports. If you are like me and can’t get enough info about your team, look out on the footy forums for training reviews. Here is one for today’s training down at Waverly Park:

When I arrived Clinton Young had just finished training (looked spent) followed soon after by Bob and Dowler. Josh was there trying. (1 player you just cannot miss ). Training during pre season certainly different to training once the season has started. During the season it is short 5-10 minute skill drills handball, short kicks, long kicks, long handball and then some training on moving the ball from backline to forward line. Fast, fast fast.

Also over at the break Hawks site, Mighthawk.net, there are a lot of Photos from the session.

Perhaps the big news of the day is that Rick Ladson looks to have rolled his ankle. If I am able to find anything out about this, I will let you know.

Vanders to lead us with the Mitch and Hodgey in support

For me personally I am extremely happy that the club took the expected step I guess, but some would call it a bold move. There are many fans that believe it is time to give Luke Hodge the top job. He is arguably the best player in the side, he has a huge on field presents and he is tough. The Hawks made the first step towards him moving to the Captaincy by making him a Vice-Captain. In fact co-Vice Captain with Sam Mitchell.

Hawthorn Football Club announced at its Annual General Meeting tonight that the Club will be captained in 2007 by Richard Vandenberg with vice-captaincy duties going to emerging leaders Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge.

The Fact that there is a debate about this issue is an absolute massive improvement for the club over the point that they were at a few years ago when they where struggling to find a leader. Now we have a leadership group of Richard Vandenberg, Sam Mitchell, Luke Hodge, Chance Bateman, Tim Clarke, Shane Crawford, Ben Dixon and Danny Jacobs. We also have guys like Max Bailey who are reported to be strong leaders. I saw Max at the Hawthorn Family day and in fact he was involved in the clinics that they held for the kids (that was a fantastic idea by the club by the way) and definitely stepped up and took control of the group of players and kids (which isn’t an easy thing with a bunch of 6 year olds).

The clubs future is in good hands.

What do you think? Are you happy with Vanders as Captain for 2007? What about beyond? When should Hodge (or Sammy) take over?

Welcome to the Hawks Squark!

Welcome everyone. This site is hopefully going to be a nice site to get news on the Mighty Hawks (from Hawthorn in the AFL) and the players and fans of the club. Hopefully a little bit of information from the news as well as my own passionate but uneducated thoughts about the Hawks.

If there is anything you want to see or hear, let me know and I will see what I can do. This is an unofficial site although if things go well, maybe I will be able to get a couple of interviews with Hawks players and staff (but this is unlikely).

So welcome and let the fun begin!
