Photos: Boys are Back in Town (well, at Waverly Park)

So we are into preseason for 2011 season and after some major work to the playing surface that saw the whole turf relayed, the boys were back training at the famous oval. Most of the players out there and from all reports, quite a long session that included ball work and a simulated match.

By the time I got there, the match was just ending but I was able to get some photos of the boys running. Any help with point out the new players greatly appreciated.

My thoughts

  • Good start to the year
  • Backline did well. Everyone of the players that are down back can use the ball
  • If Thomas Murphy can stay as the 4th back, he will have a much better year.
  • How can people have a go at Dr.X (Xavier Ellis)? The guy is all class, Lets hope he stays fit
  • Roughy was good. Strong overhead but where did that good kicking go?
  • Was really happy with Renouf, great around the ground until he got injured.
  • Peterson could very well replace Willo and looks very flexible as to how he plays.
  • Hooper’s effort was great. If he can keep it up, he will be a very good pick up
  • Can you imagine a forward line with Brown, Hooper, Peterson, Rioli and Hooper? Bit small but great forward pressure
  • Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis all did what they needed
  • Schoenmakers looks great. Will be interesting to see how he goes against the bigger forwards

Highlights Part 2

Hawks win means I win!

JeffWhiteTwitter Review of the game to come later, but just wanting to point out a win in a bet I had. Former Demon ruckman, now on the Gold Coast, Jeff White is a pretty big user of Social Media site, Twitter.

I have been following his tweets for some time and was surprised when in his tips for the week, he picked Melbourne (okay, so not that strange).

I decided to challenge him to a little twitter bet. The bet being, if the Demons win, I change my logo on twitter to the Demons logo. If the Hawks win, Jeff wears the Hawks logo on Twitter for the week.

Jeff saw me tweet and gracefully accepted the bet. I have to admit a slight bit of nervousness about the game, but the boys came through. Jeff came through with his bet and tweeted this after the game:

@mollyfud good win by the hawks. I will commit to the bet and change my avatar

He then changed it and tweeted this:

Lost the bet with @mollyfud so this is my new profile pic for 1 week ONLY. Bad luck to the demons, great courage AGAIN from Greeny.

Jeff took a little bit of flack for the change in logo from Demon fans (including one joking that they would unfollow him for the week, but might have a better way around the issue:

This bet is only for this week. You know the way to fix it..no tweets for a week, haha. Don’t worry, I thought it through

I want to thank Jeff for agreeing on the bet and going through with it (which I had no doubt he would).

If the Hawks are playing your team coming up and you want to make the same twitter bet, let me know.

UPDATE:

Jeff White is a bet welcher! By Monday morning (the bet was for a week) he had already changed his logo back. While I applaud him for changing his logo so quickly, I am disappointed he didn’t follow through the bet. If you want to let him know your disappointment you  can by sending your message on twitter by using @jeffwhite34 ! I would (and have before) changed my logo for the week if the Hawks had of lost, which makes Jeff’s actions more disappointing!
