Training kicked off last Monday for the 2012 season and I was down there to take a few picks. Enjoy

An unofficial Hawthorn Hawks AFL site about the Mighty Hawks

Bit late getting this post out but went down to Waverly on Friday for a training session. One of the features of the session was a number of players in there original home club outfits. A good session by all. I spent a lot of it watching the rucks doing their thing. Check the photos out for more comments.
Left to right: Bateman (York), Birchall (Devonport), Suckling (Wagga Tigers), Rioli (St Marys), Burgoyne (Mallee Park) and Osbourne (Labrador)

So my family and I wandered down to the Hawks 2011 Family say that was back at Glen Ferrie Oval, in Hawthorn. The day was more compact then I remember (3 hours instead of 4 or 5) and I liked it. There was a great turn out, so much so there were large lines to get into the ground. Seemed to be a lot to do but I parked myself infront of the stage for Player interviews and the presentation (although I sadly report the need to lineup and get the kids ice creams meant I missed Brucey and Buddy’s interviews). So there will be a few videos (including the next one that will contain the clubs big announcement). But lets kick things off with a couple of interviews. Your Interviewer is the big Dipper and the subjects of the interviews are Jarryd Roughead and Luke Lowden!

So my boys and I traveled down to Skilled Stadium and saw the Hawks beat the Roos 99 – 70. It was a great day and I was joined by my Coaches Box DreamTeam and SuperCoach Podcast co-host, Monty. I may get up some of the videos (that were mostly not great) I took on my phone on this site later this week, but here is a review of the game by main Monty and Patty (with me throwing in my two cents).

On Tuesday the 21st of December, my family and I ventured down to Waverly for the Hawthorn Christmas open day. It was a little different from other years with a BBQ (manned by Luke Hodge, Taylor Duryea and Xavier Ellis as well as voluneers), some training taking place on the oval but the main thing was the tour of the facilities. Lots, if not all players were on hand and signing autographs and posing for photographs. In addition to these activities, the Hawks Advance Media team invited a few lucky folkes into the Hawks TV Studio where the highly successful Hawks Active TV/Internet show is filmed along with other Press conferences and other projects (including a really big and exciting one for next year 2011).
Amber, the manager of the group, toured us around the studio, that as you will see below, was setup for an interview that was about to take place that afternoon with Buddy and Burgers (which you can of course see on Hawks TV) and took us up to the ladder to the produces area and the area occupied by Jade, the Website Administrator. It was really interesting to see how the area was setup and the projects being under taken. I have a feeling like lots of us, the team is still working out what works and what doesn’t but is definitely starting to push the boundaries as far as new media is involved. And the project I mentioned early seems like lots of hard work is being done on it and the fruit of it will be something that the team and club can be very proud of! Anyway, I took a few photos of the day, and you can find them below with my comments.
If you went, what did you think? And what do you think of the way the club is using the new mediums of Twitter and Facebook?
Newly Recruited Will Langford. Of course he is son of Chris and joined us via the NSW Scholarship program
My son Patrick and I in front of the Hawks 10 Cups. This should be out of date come the end of the year!
Either Amber auditioning for a musical or pointing out this is the area where the interviews are conducted
Thought this might interest someone. One of the Cameras that Hawks active and interviews is recorded with
This is where the videos are edited. A very nice setup! (also a hint of the projected I mentioned on the screen)
One of the Screens used to co-ordinate things. The Guy on there is Daniel who does the Video Production
Stephen Gilham and my son Patrick. Players were very generious with their time considering they were training at the same time

Here is the HawksTV interview with Cameron Bruce after he was selected in the 2010 AFL Preseason draft.
So we are into preseason for 2011 season and after some major work to the playing surface that saw the whole turf relayed, the boys were back training at the famous oval. Most of the players out there and from all reports, quite a long session that included ball work and a simulated match.
By the time I got there, the match was just ending but I was able to get some photos of the boys running. Any help with point out the new players greatly appreciated.
